Electric cars can be charged either via AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current). Conventional home and public charging points work off alternating current. Fast charging points, that can be found on motorways, work off direct current.
The battery within the car works with DC current, so the vehicle’s charger converts AC to DC when your car is plugged into a conventional charging point.
At home charging works by installing an electric vehicle charging point to your house and charging using the type 2 cable supplied. Occasionally, you can also charge your car from a domestic socket with the 3-pin flexicharger cable available as an accessory.
The home charging point will be 7.4 kW AC single-phase or 11 kW AC three-phase – both of these use a type 2 cable (which comes with the vehicle), but amount of AC capable will depend on your unique house set up. On occasion, you can also charge on AC via a 3-pin domestic socket and use the Flexicharger cable (which is an additional accessory).
Speak to your Renault retailer. With Mobilize Power Solutions, they can offer the most appropriate charging solution for their customers and the vehicle ordered, whilst offering support for their installation and use. You can order your charging point at the same time as your electric vehicle.
